Team K53 returns home after completing mission to recover fallen soldiers’ remains in Laos and Cambodia

On June 4, the VX 88 nhà cái Provincial Steering Committee for the Search, Recovery and Identification of Fallen Soldiers’ Remains held a ceremony to welcome Team K53 of the Provincial Military Command after completing its mission to recover and repatriate the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who sacrificed their lives in Laos and Cambodia during the 2025–2026 dry season.

According to Team K53, during the 2025–2026 dry season, the unit verified and processed 600 pieces of information related to martyrs and martyrs’ graves, conducting search operations in 19 districts across three southern provinces of Laos and six districts in Ratanakiri Province, Cambodia.

As a result, the team recovered 16 sets of remains, including 10 in Laos and six in Cambodia. Of these, 13 biological samples were eligible for DNA identification.

Speaking at the ceremony, Permanent Vice Chairwoman Y Ngọc expressed appreciation to the authorities, armed forces and people of the southern provinces of Laos and Ratanakiri Province in Cambodia for their continued support and cooperation throughout the mission.

She commended the dedication and efforts of Team K53 in bringing fallen soldiers home, emphasizing that each set of recovered remains reflects the nation’s enduring tradition of gratitude and remembrance.

She requested Team K53 to promptly review and continue implementing search and recovery missions within the province, contributing to activities marking the 80th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day.

On this occasion, the VX 88 nhà cái Provincial People’s Committee awarded Certificates of Merit to eight collectives and 14 individuals for outstanding achievements in the search, recovery and repatriation mission. Additional awards were presented to eight collectives and 20 individuals from Laos and Cambodia in recognition of their contributions to the cooperation effort.
