Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Trần Phước Hiền chairs the meeting
QUẢNG NGÃI — Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Trần Phước Hiền has urged authorities to conduct a comprehensive review of the investment efficiency of solar power projects across the province, particularly in western border areas.
At a meeting on May 27 with departments and relevant agencies, officials discussed plans to better tap the province’s solar energy potential and promote rooftop solar systems in industrial parks.
According to the Provincial Department of Industry and Trade (DoIT), western border communes such as Ia Tơi and Ia Đal have favourable conditions for large-scale solar power projects thanks to strong solar radiation, large land reserves and the potential to combine energy development with agriculture and border-area economic growth.
Provincial authorities have directed agencies and localities to review land-use efficiency, solar energy potential, socio-economic impacts, grid connection and transmission capacity, as well as national defence and security factors in border areas.
Hiền assigned DoIT to coordinate with relevant agencies and localities to assess the effectiveness of existing and planned solar power projects and propose suitable recommendations to the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) and the Government for integration into the adjusted Power Development Plan VIII and orientation for Power Development Plan IX.
He also asked local authorities to review land resources suitable for energy projects and proactively propose planning adjustments to maximise solar power potential and support socio-economic development and national energy security.
Regarding rooftop solar power, the province had 3,123 rooftop solar systems with a combined capacity of more than 366MWp as of May 2026.
Of the total, 2,756 systems with a capacity exceeding 323MWp were eligible for FIT pricing for surplus electricity sales, while 367 self-production and self-consumption systems had a combined capacity of over 42MWp.
Demand for rooftop solar power among enterprises in Dung Quất Economic Zone and industrial parks continues to rise, with registered demand exceeding 139MWp. Hòa Phát Dung Quất Steel JSC alone registered demand of more than 78MWp, while businesses in VSIP VX 88 nhà cái registered over 31MWp.
Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Trần Phước Hiền
Hiền said rooftop solar systems help businesses reduce electricity costs, secure energy supplies for production and contribute to green transition and sustainable development goals.
He requested relevant agencies to quickly remove obstacles and facilitate investment procedures for enterprises, while also assessing the province’s rooftop solar potential and proposing additional development targets to MoIT for the next phase.
